Understand how to multiply, divide and convert decimals to fractions.

Note: This lesson also may be used by older students seeking business math review, for example, a refresher for those entering an administrative type position.

  1. Multiplying decimals
    • Ask for examples of everyday applications
  2. Multiply decimals by whole numbers
    • fraction method
    • use multiplier * multiplicand method
    • count up decimals
    • work through examples of both kinds
  3. Multiply decimals by decimals
    • Use both approaches
    • Work through examples
  4. Dividing Decimals by whole numbers
    • use standard division
    • show how to manage decimal point
    •  work through examples
  5. Dividing decimals by decimals
    • outline method to convert divisor to whole number
    • explain why dividend decimal must be moved equal number of spaces
    • work through examples

 

Assessment/Evaluation
Have students complete the worksheet. A passing grade is 70% or greater.
