BASIC PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING LESSON PLAN
Introduce the topic by explaining that marketing is considered one of the most important tools for developing a business.
Have the students read the comprehension passage. Give them the worksheet and ask them to work in pairs. They should identify a business whose products or services they use and answer the questions to see how much they know about its marketing.
Ask each of the pairs to report on the most interesting points on their questionnaires.
Marketing is a crucial business function through which a company carries out activities to plan, price, promote and distribute products or services to its customers. The theory of marketing is based on the belief that people buy a product or service to meet a need or because of a perceived benefit. Marketing uses information gathered by applying principles from economics, psychology and sociology to decide how best to develop and promote products and services to the appropriate customers.
The key considerations in marketing are sometimes known as the four P’s:
- Product (your products or services)
- Price (how much to sell your products and services for)
- Promotion (communicating information about your products or services to potential customers)
- Place/placement (where you carry out your business and distribute to customers).
