Students learn a basic lesson in elementary computer keyboarding and using the period key.

 

 

KEYBOARDING LESSON 4 - PERIOD

 

Fourth keyboarding teaching lesson with practice drills.

 

Objectives:

  • Students will learn to locate and type letters n, w, and (period).

  • Students will review the home row and all letters learned.

  • Students will practice conditioning and speed.

Prerequisites:

Keyboarding Introduction Lesson

 

Appropriate Grade Levels:

5th - 12th Grade

 

 

 

KEYBOARDING PERIOD KEY LESSON PLAN

 

Material:

  • 1. Computer keyboards – 1 per student.

  • 2. Wall chart showing keys and fingerings of the keyboard (see introductory lesson)

  • 3. Paper to cover the hands of each student during drills.

  • 4. Student Drills Worksheets.

 

 

Procedure:

 

New Concept:

 

First time: Type first line slowly, with an easy pace. Strike each key quickly.

 

Second time: Faster pace, moving from key to key quicker.

Introduce new keys:     n       w       (.)

 

Have students place their fingers in the home row position. Position fingers of the left hand on asdf and the right fingers on jkl;.

 

Have students locate the new keys on the keyboard. Let them watch their fingers as they reach up to the w with left third finger, and the n with right first finger and the < .> by reaching down with the right third finger.  Space twice after (.) at the end of a sentence. Try these together as a class:
