Students learn about charities and other non-profit organizations.

 

Objectives:

  • By the end of the lesson, pupils should understand:

    • What a charity or non-profit organization is
    • The needs that exist both overseas and at home
    • The type of work charities do
    • Why their work is important

Suggested Grades:

Fifth Grade - Sixth Grade

 
 

 

CHARITIES LESSON PLAN

Resources needed:

  • Printable lesson and lesson plan (see below).
     
  • The activity requires children to get information from charity websites about what the organization does.  If it isn’t possible for the children have access to the Internet for 15 minutes during the lesson, the teacher will need to print out in advance and make 2-3 copies of promotional materials from around 10 charities. A list of links is provided at the end of this lesson plan.
     
  • A4 paper (1 sheet per group of 3 pupils) and pens
