STOCK

 

A stock is a type of investment that represents ownership of a company.

 

Stock is created by companies issuing shares to raise capital (money).  The shares of stock are a claim on a company's earnings and assets.  Shares of stock are represented by stock certificates.

 

There are different kinds of stock.  The one most known is called common stock, which gives the owner voting rights for the company.
