Do-It-Yourself Parties

Are you planning to throw a party for your special someone and don’t know where to start and how to do it? Parties go through planning and lots of organization, most of us are not good at, but no matter what’s the trend presented to us every now and then, people always end up asking how to set up an intimate, original and enjoyable do-it-yourself parties.

Staging parties takes patience, tons of unique ideas and lots of follow-ups. It’s best to consult with friends and do it with them. It’s more fun, to say the least. Some tips for do-it-yourself parties are here for the taking.

Decide on a theme. Let’s say it’s a birthday party for your mom. Surprise the celebrant with the most unique theme that’s close to her personality. This will trim down your overwhelming designs for the occasion. And then, set objectives. This will ease your way through the details and timetable. Once the objectives are established, you’re just on the right swing. A cute theme would be a 50’s vintage look. Your mom will adore it!

Settle on a proper venue. And don’t take this for granted. Some unsuccessful parties ever done failed because the venue was a disappointment. Either it was not convenient for people to go to or it’s not big enough to contain the guests. The venue must be presentable, comfortable and decorated with a 50’s era look if you’re all set to make your mom and her guests feel young once again.

Have a guest list. Every party has this list – whether it’s needed or not. If you’re on a budget, take time to know who you want to be there in the party. You wouldn’t want to overshoot your budget, right? Otherwise, make it an open party for anyone to hop in your party scene. Remember, it’s your mom’s party so consider her thoughts on this. Her guest list matters the most and not yours. Important: Send out invites in advance and make the guests confirm their attendance.

It’s all about food. When this fails, everything else will. So make sure to heat things up by serving the food related to your theme and most applicable to be eaten by your guests. To make the party really extra special, let someone close to the celebrant cook for her. It’s the best that could happen. No strangers in the scene, just loved-ones willing to contribute to make it one memorable birthday celebration.

Details! Details! Details! What could be more draining than calling and placing orders to your suppliers for a birthday party? Here’s a list you should not forget: Food caterer, Wine and Drinks, Invitation, Sound System, Hosts or Emcees, Balloons and Decors, Cake, Photographer, Souvenir or Thank you notes, Car Service, and Personnel. But then again, you can do away with spending on this list when there are extra help you can take. Delve into every single detail and assign one, if necessary, to friends. I am sure they will be very glad to participate.

Document the celebration. Don’t forget to do this so that you will have something to remember after.

Shower the celebrant with heartwarming gifts. Giving your mom more gifts would be icing on the cake. Surely she will appreciate your effort in putting the whole party together after you have pulled it off. But tales of any birthday celebration won’t be complete if there are no gifts, right? One very lovely gift you can give your mom would be a memory jar. Mary LoVerde, a professional speaker and founder of Life Balance, Inc. wrote about writing special notes to her mom on Mothers’ Day in the book Chocolate for a Woman’s Heart by Kay Allenbaugh. Some of beautiful things she wrote were:

  • I remember how I loved to watch you get ready to go out dancing on Saturday night. I knew my mom was the most beautiful mother in the world.
  • I remember how smart you were raising six kids.
  • I remember saving half the money to buy go-go boots, and the other half you added.

One twist you can do is ask your mom’s friends write something about their best memory with her. After reading notes from a customized memory jar, who will not get emotional and be grateful? I bet no any other exciting surprise could beat this.
