Holiday Entertaining
The holidays and entertaining go hand in hand for some people. If you are one of those people you are probably always on the look out for new ideas for your holiday entertaining. Here are just a few ideas to help you make it through the stress of the holidays.
One of the most important aspects of entertaining during the holiday season is creating a festive and colorful atmosphere.
This sets the mood and starts everything out on the right track. How better to set a festive atmosphere than with the season’s decorations? No matter if you decorate with traditional Christmas trimmings, or you go for a more subtle and sophisticated style, the right amount of decorations will go a long way in setting the perfect atmosphere for your guests.
A beautifully trimmed Christmas tree and the fire place adorned with holly, will start things off right. Don’t forget the table centerpieces. Table center pieces are important in adding just the right touch of the festive mood at the dinner table. And by all means do not forget the outside of your home. This is the first thing your guests will see when arriving for your party, make a cheerful and festive impression right from the start. It doesn’t take much, a beautifully decorated wreath, some red ribbon placed in just the right locations, and a few lights. With all this done you will have succeeded in creating a mood for a cheerful holiday atmosphere.
Food, is probably equally as important as a holiday atmosphere. It is significant to serve some of your favorite holidays dishes as well as some traditional fare. If your guest list is long, you will want to make sure that you have plenty to go around. A tip to make the job run a little more smoothly is to prepare as much as you can ahead of time. Plumb pudding is not only a long standing Christmas tradition, but it is better when it is prepared in advance and aged.
Several weeks before your planned social event, sit down and draw up a menu; include everything from the appetizers, to the sweets and drinks. This is when you decide what type of food you will serve. Will it be simple finger foods and salads, or something a little more formal? Once you have drawn up the menu, set down a schedule of when to prepare what. Whatever can be prepared in advance and frozen, do so. It will save you a great deal of stress.
Serving the food can also become very chaotic unless you plan ahead. It nearly always works better to serve buffet style at large gatherings. This leaves you free, except for making sure the food table is kept full, and everyone is having a good time.
Once your big night comes, don’t forget to liven up your party with lots of holiday music. This is like icing on the cake and will put everyone in the mood for some holiday cheer.
