EXERCISING - HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR EXERCISE PROGRAM

For those serious about starting an exercise program and also maintaining it, here are a few tips to help you maintain it.

There are several keys to maintaining an exercise program that will keep you interested and focused. Some of these include:

MAINTAINING AN EXERCISE PROGRAM

1. Buddy system. Ask a friend to join you in your new exercise program. If they are at a similar exercise level as you, it will help to keep you both motivated and on track.

2. Set measurable goals. If your goal is to lose weight, you will want to incorporate a well-balanced diet along with your exercise program. Be realistic. Determine how much weight you want to lose in 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, etc. If you have other goals, such as increased energy, trimmer, stronger body, or something else, make sure you set your goals as realistic as possible. Again, having a buddy hold you accountable will make all the difference.

3. Measure your successes. At the end of each milestone, track your success. Determine if it is where you should be according to your goals, and adjust accordingly. If your goals are unrealistic, alter them. If you are not exercising like you believe you should, then adjust your schedule to incorporate your new exercise program.

4. Celebrate! As you succeed with each milestone, celebrate! A little ice cream once in a while (or whatever motivates you) will be a great treat after you have worked so hard to start and maintain your new exercise program.

Overall, moderate or heavy exercise will help you to begin to enjoy a healthier, stronger lifestyle. You will have more energy and will make your trips to the mall much more enjoyable!
